Brazil's Paradise: The Marvellous Beaches between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

Welcome to São Paulo's Paradise Around the Corner!

Hundreds of kilometers of marvellous beaches border the costline between São Paulo und Rio de Janeiro. Finest sand, often free of houses: because the free access to all beaches is guaranteed by law in Brazil (opposed to many Mediterranean countries). Atlantic waves breaking in outside the beach, wooden islands. And in the background always the steeply descending, green coast mountains "Serra do Mar", with the famous tropical Atlantic rain forest, it's colours and the smell of thausands of plant types. The perfect area to fully savour the famous relaxed Brazilian beach life! myDriver São Paulo drives you safely to the beach and back. Always included: we sovereignly overcome the 900 m difference in altitude from São Paulo to the coast, which partly leads through steep passes. Here is our selection of marvellous beaches.

Ilhabela

1400 m and almost 30 km long, Ilhabela ("beautiful island") rises above the Atlantic ocean. Brazil's fourth-biggest Atlantic island is situated only 4 km from the coastline and 200 km away from São Paulo. A ferry-boat allows to drive all to your target on the island. You may swim in one of the beaches totalling 36 km, or in one of the more than 350 waterfalls. Quiet, emerald-green bays and even historic ship wracks invite for diving.

Ilha Grande und Angra dos Reis

29 km long,12 km wide and over 100 m high: the National Park Ilha Grande ("big island") rises up in front of Angra dos Reis. 86 beaches and rare animals like hawler monkeys, parrots or turtles make the island internationally famous. Among the most beautiful beaches are Lopes Mendes and Dois Rios. The former prison island is almost car free; get there by ferry.boat from Angra dos Reis (75 min transfer). A beautiful place for diving with tourist boats. Many bed and breakfast places (pousadas) can only be reached by boat, some are luxury flats. myDriver São Paulo brings you directly to the ferry-boat within some hours.

Paraty

Paraty is one of the most picturesc cities in Brazil and national cultural heritage. The historic city built in the 17th century is almost completely preserved. Full of galeries, arts & handcraft shops, charming bars and restaurants, and free of cars. Since the 16th century, the city provided the link between the young São Paulo and the sea connection to Rio de Janeiro. By the end of the 17th century, Paraty was included in the gold route "Caminho de Ouro", on which the gold findings from Minas Gerais were transported to Europe. Most of the center-city houses - today all painted in white with coloured windows and shutters - and the streets built by slaves were constructed during this period. Please use comfortable shoes, like sneekers, no high heels. By the end of the 18th century, after the gold route had been shortened and took course outside of Paraty, the city cultivated a lot of sugarcane. Still today, the city is famous for the tradicional destilled spirit made from sugarcane, Cachaça, the base for Brazil's national drink Caipirinha. From Paraty's port, tourists can make boat trips to the near-by beaches in the bay of Paraty - as a passenger on larger boats or in provate boats.

Guarujá

Close to the major seaport of Santos, the beaches that are easiest - within one hour - accessible from São Paulo can be found in Guarujá. Partially extensive flat urban beaches, partially picturesc mini beaches invite for swimming and relaxing. myDriver São Paulo brings you to the most impressive beaches - in your time window, from 4 hours including outward and return ride.

Juqueí oder Juquehy

A marvellous beach extending over 3 km, with white sand and transparent sea water. Juquehy is 150 km away from São Paulo and can be reached within 3 hours - good enough for a day trip. The panoramic view of some beach areas over the ocean is legendary, e.g. from the exclusive restaurant Badaué. The village surrounds the beach charmingly, the houses have mamimum two floors. The beach with the Atlantic rain forest in the background provides a perfect scenery for bike and Jeep tours to the close-by waterfalls. ALso the numerous small islands close by invite for day trips.

Ubatuba

The area around Ubatuba fascinates with more than 100 beaches with finest white sand, often without any houses. Here is the place to fully savour the famous relaxed Brazilian beach life! In the background, the steep green coastline mountains of "Serra do Mar" rise, hosting the famous tropical Atlantic rain forest. The foto shows my personal favourite beach, the Praia de Itamambuca: 2,5 km wide, a river with flat banks on each side, and so much wind that the beach annually hosts the national Brazilian surf championship. A paradise, accessible to all!
